Many people enjoy measuring their skills against set standards or other people. Competitions range from a “shoot off” at your local range with your firearm buddy to elite international competition such as the Olympics. The more you practice, the better shooter you will be and the more likely you will be interested in competitive shooting. Watching a local or regional firearm competition is fun and educational.

Competition rifles can range from your “trusty” personal favorite to custom-made match rifle for use in the highest level of competition. Nearly all competitive shooters are happy to give pointers to new competitive shooters, and most “local” competitive shooting is performed with high-quality but standard firearms. If you are interested in competitive shooting, consider joining a local shooting club. They are nearly everywhere and will help you meet more shooters.
